How to Apply for a Marriage License
You may apply in person for a marriage license Monday
through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except legal holidays. You can
apply online any time, but in
order to complete the online application process, both applicants
must go together to the Court between the hours listed above,
with any additional required materials mentioned in these
instructions.
At least one of the applicants must be a resident of
Adams County and the marriage
must be performed in the State of Ohio. If both applicants are from
out of state but wish to be married in
Adams County, they must
obtain their license in
Adams County.
Each applicant must provide valid photo identification along with their social security card. Social
Security numbers are held in confidence and do not become a part of the Court’s public records. If you are unable to bring your
social security card, the Court will accept documentation from an insurance policy, financial institution or tax information
containing name and social security number on the documentation. If either applicant has been previously married and the marriage
ended in divorce, dissolution or annulment, the applicant must provide a file stamped copy of the final order or decree granting
the divorce, dissolution or annulment and is required for all previous divorces.
Cost of the license is $50 (cash, money order, or debit/credit card). Checks
are not accepted.
License may be used the same day it is issued. It must
be used within 60 days. The day of issue is day 1 of the 60 days.
